Samsung India expands the world’s largest mobile factory, has put Noida on top of the world manufacturing facility. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and South Korean President Moon Jae-in have inaugurated the new 35-acre Samsung Electronics facility on Monday.

News reported that Samsung currently produces a unit in terms of a number of devices rolled out every month. It currently manufactures over 67 million mobile phones with the new plant annually in India, it is expected to produce nearly 120 million mobile phones.

Last year, the South Korean major announced that it would invest Rs 4,915 crore to expand double its manufacturing capacity for smartphones and refrigerators at the Noida plant. After a year, the new facility is ready to double manufacture.

The company said, “The expansion of the Noida plant on an additional new 35 acres Samsung Electronics facility will double the production capacity of both smartphones and refrigerators.”

The double production capacity come in India’s smartphone users are likely to touch the 340 million mark by the end of this year and expected to touch the 442 million mark by 2022. Sources say that India is the second largest smartphone market in the world. Not just this, the expansion of the current facility will double Samsung’s production capacity of flat panel televisions.

According to Tarun Pathak who is Associate Director at Counterpoint, the new facility gives an advantage to Samsung by reducing the time to market. The company will help Samsung by providing some local features to the devices and also bring in export opportunity for Samsung.

Samsung has two production plants in Noida and other being Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu. Apart from five research and development centers in India. The Company has one design Centre in Noida with a workforce of over 70,000 people.

While announcing the investment in June last year, the company had said that it would position the Noida plant as a major manufacturing hub and create about 5,000 new jobs.
