Mukesh Ambani addressed the Reliance shareholders at the 41st annual general meeting (AGM) on 5th July in Mumbai. The chairman and managing director of the company unveiled JioPhone 2 and  JioGigaFiber, a broadband service that aims to provide ultra-high speed internet up to 1Gbps, voice control, 4K and HD content.

Another major announcement from the event was JioPhone 2, made by Isha Ambani. At last year’s AGM, the company revealed the JioPhone which was an instant hit because of its super-affordable price.

JioPhone 2 specifications

JioPhone 2 has a display size of 2.40 inch with a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. The phone comes with 512MB RAM and 4GB internal storage which can be expanded upto 128GB via SD card. JioPhone 2 sports a 2MP primary camera and a 0.3MP front selfie camera. It also has many connectivity options including Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, NFC, and FM. The phone runs on KaiOS and is powered by 2000 mAh battery. Reportedly, Google has made an investment of $22 million in KaiOS to integrate Google services like Map, Voice-assistant. Even though the phone isn’t running on Android OS, the users can use common apps like WhatsApp.

The booking of JioPhone 2 will begin on 15th August at a price of Rs. 2999. Moreover, the phone will also support Whatsapp, Facebook, and YouTube.

JioGigaFiber with Jio Smart Home Accessories 

JioGigaFiber’s registration will also begin from 15th August. To complement the broadband service, Reliance also announced Jio Smart Home Accessories which includes audio and video dongle, smart speaker, smart plug, security camera, and a TV camera. The main aim behind the launch of the service is to expand the presence of connected homes.

Jio Launched A 4G Feature Phone & It Is Actually FREE

Jio has also called JioPhone as ‘India Ka Smartphone‘ and is available at an effective price that is Rs. 0. But there are some conditions. The phone will be only available to users who are ready to pay refundable 1500 rupees to the company. The money will be returned after 3 years to the buyers.

The phone was launched at 40th AGM meet of RIL.

JioPhone will be under beta testing from 15th August, and the bookings for the phone will open on 24th August. JioPhone will be available to the buyers from September, and it will be given to users according to their pre-booking status. Users can buy Rs.153 per month pack which will give them free voice calls and unlimited data. The other plan is of Rs.309 per month where users get everything from 153 rupees pack and in addition gets the support for mirroring their screen on a TV, with the help of a cable.
