Microsoft wants to create a new mysterious Surface device category. They have been working on a “new and disruptive” dual-screen device for two years. It influences the overall Surface roadmap and blurs the lines between PC and mobile. According to Microsoft’s Andromeda, a folding device that’s part of the company’s Surface line. Now, it will look like and when it might be released.
Microsoft’s Andromeda describes the feature of the new and disruptive device as a new pocketable Surface device. It comes with innovative new hardware and software experiences. It creates a truly personal and versatile computing experience. Microsoft is also including a stylus with Andromeda, allowing users to record notes as Samsung’s Galaxy Note series.
The question is that when Microsoft will release a new pocketable Surface device. According to a report, it will come to this year. After launching this device, Microsoft OEM partners will launch similar hardware soon.
The biggest hope for Microsoft is that Andromeda will finally banish the memory of the Windows Phone. “It will blur the lines between mobile and stationary computing,” claims one internal document.
Samsung has also been toying with the idea. Samsung recently started promoting foldable displays as a source of new revenue. LG Display is also working on TV displays that roll up like a newspaper.
Microsoft will really need to ensure the software works well enough to recognize its dual-screen device feature. Making apps scale across ever-changing display sizes and formats will be the most difficult for any hardware maker to succeed with.
